The Work-At-Home Mindset
Monday, October 8th, 2007No matter if you already have a work at home business or are just now thinking of starting one, it is important to know what mindset is necessary to maintain in your venture. Otherwise, your own lack of energy and determination could be your downfall. Is there a mindset involved with working at home as an entrepreneur? Yes, most definitely.
When you have some enterprise set up to operate, or a venture already in progress and moving, if slowly, you probably have experienced roller-coaster-like emotions as you move through your day-to-day activities. Entrepreneurs are well aware of the highs of success and the lows of potential failure. Those lows can really get you down, and sometimes make you think about giving up.
In any adventure you are going to get ups and downs; you are going to have good times and not-so-good times. How you approach these will have a lot to do with your overall success.
You can’t ignore the low points. You have to face them with all the enthusiasm of the high points. When something happens that indicates a weak spot in your operations, you must see what caused that to happen and work out what you could do to avoid it in the future. Once you have it pinpointed what the weak spot is, deal with it! Write it down, analyze it and then move on. Learn how to overcome it so that it will not happen again.
To give an example, let’s say you have a network marketing operation where two separate companies are supplying you with products you are selling online. One company gives you no problem and always ships supplies to you promptly and your customers are always happy. The other runs out of stock, you have to deal with your customers and end up refunding them and not making a sale, yet tying up too much of your time. How to handle? Quit using that network marketing company and find another. This is a pretty simple example but vital to know. Your customers are your life-blood and you have to service them the very best you can. You can’t spend your day handling complaints.
You should be prepared to work hard every day to keep your business up and running. If you neglect certain aspects of it one day, there will come a day that they will come up to bite you when you aren’t looking. Don’t neglect the fine points of your paperwork and record keeping. When they are up-to-date and in good condition, it will serve you well when you need to refer to them. The mindset here is to pay attention to the small details and stay organized.
Most important of all is the mindset of success. Every action you take in your business should be targeted at how to make it better, faster, smoother and more efficient. Entrepreneurs always try to be “working smarter” and save a lot of time. By getting more efficient, you will make more money for less time invested, thus when you invest a lot of time, you will make a lot more income. And really, isn’t that what it’s all about? Supporting you and your family and eventually having great wealth? You bet!
