Home based businesses

Friday, December 28th, 2007

With the advent of technology, life is changing for the common man. He no longer has to travel long distances to reach his office. In a busy city like London a person has to travel by public transport for nearly two hours to reach his work place. This adds to the stress and strain for people. To avoid this tension of traveling long distance, home based businesses are the best option. There are many home based businesses which are in vogue today. A person can convert a room in his/her home, may be his garage or basement as home office and work from there. This has been possible due to the introduction of computers and internet. Online transaction can be carried out with clients and vendors alike.

Attending online meetings and video conferencing saves time, effort and money. For women it is a blessing in disguise as they can be full time moms as well as balance their careers. The fear of whether the nanny or babysitter is looking after her kid is no longer there. Nor does she need to pay half her income to day care.

For men who are on their own, they can identify their niche and start working around it. For example, a person who is a software programmer can take up work online and upload the files once the work is done. This way he can save time in traveling and meeting his client, at the same time devote more time to his work. Corrections can be done online, then and there, since he can simultaneously chat with his client over the net.

Writing and translation work is another interesting home based business. Having freelance writers, your job can be done at half the cost, since there are no overhead expenses. Many people do ghostwriting work from home. There are websites where jobs are posted and people apply for the jobs online. The major advantage is you can reach out to talent all around the world. The client may be in U.S but his writers may be in U.K or India or any other part of world.

Fashion designing is another job that can be done from home. All creative work can be undertaken at home and the retailing can be done either online or by supplying to retail outlets. Garments and clothes are always in demand and they never go out of fashion. Art is another hobby cum career which can be carried out from home and can then be sold at art galleries and mall outlets. Candle making, catering and various other home based businesses generate a decent income.

Accounting and financial consulting are also home based businesses. Trading at the stock market can be done from the luxury of your study with just a P.C and one can make quick and good money at stocks if you know your job well. People burn out due to stress and tension at work place. Especially at the stock markets where volatility is high and you need to be really sure before you buy your stock. You can also give tips to clients from home. This way you earn your commission as well as make money trading stocks.

Business consulting, insurance agent, real estate broker are all businesses that can be conducted from home. All you need is a website detailing your work and how you can help people with a computer and internet connection at home.

The major advantage with a home based business is that you needn’t invest money upfront and then wait for the returns. Commuting is another hassle that can be avoided. You can reach out to people all around the world online. And last but not the least, you can have enough time for your family. Having a home based business is a double treat as you can have the cake and eat it too.

Work From Home Scams

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

With hundreds upon hundreds of people desiring the life of working from home, the criminals in our society see this as an opportunity to take advantage of these dreams. Aspiring entrepreneurs the world over end up getting sucked into the promise of a life of ease and wealth, with virtually no work involved. Multi-level marketing scams also take place, giving multi-level marketing a bad name.

Many sites promising wealth for the work at home entrepreneur are filled with outlandish promises. They say that you can work from the comfort of your home, in your pajamas and wake up to thousands of dollars in your account. Think about it. If this were true, wouldn’t thousands or even millions of people be doing it? Wouldn’t the word have gotten out to every single US citizen and every person on your block be signed up and making millions?

Where do the testimonials come from on these sites? Are all these people for real? No telling. Some may have made a success at it at one time. Some may be on the upline of some network marketing business and signed up others and made a small fortune. But those on the downline (you) wouldn’t be so lucky. Any entrepreneur must be alert.

You can read much about multi-level marketing and direct sales and work from home opportunities on the Internet, and you should really investigate them thoroughly before engaging in any of the opportunities out there. Check the Better Business Bureau for a listing of the company you are thinking of joining. Put the company name into a search engine and read some blogs and forums that talk about them.

One thing to seriously consider is that if the company is asking for any money to start up with them, and the price is more than you are willing to lose, don’t do it. They will be making their money by selling their opportunities and that will be all they are concerned with.

Just like anything you are going to invest in, it is a “buyer beware” market, so ensure you look into any work at home opportunity thoroughly before you make a decision. Realize it won’t be an option sometimes in getting your money back, no matter what the promotion states.

Find Your Perfect Work At Home Opportunity The Smart Way

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Deciding to start a home based business can be a very scary thing. There are so many different opportunities out there it can be very difficult to figure out where to start. Not only do you have to figure out which opportunity is best for you, you also have to learn how to identify the scams.

I have two basic rules that I use whenever I come across a new opportunity:

1. Never pay for work. The only time this is not true is in Network Marketing. The only reason network marketing is different is that you will need to buy the products in order to sell them. Only buy if you truly believe in what you will be selling.

2. The other rule is to follow your gut. If it sounds to go to be true then it probably is. One major red flag is being asked to handle money and/or shipping out goods. It is a fairly new scam where you are asked to either open a bank account and deposit money orders you receive or someone ships you goods and you repackage and ship them to someone else. Both of these are illegal and ultimately involve stolen credit cards. The truly unfortunate thing is that in many jurisdictions your ignorance of the actual illegal act doesn’t matter. I have known of people who had the police show up at their door!

There are hundreds of legitimate and truly wonderful opportunities out there. I just want to educate people of the dangers and hopefully help them avoid what could be costly mistakes.

Check out different websites and get yourself educated before you decide to jump in and start a home business. Remember most businesses fail due to lack of planning. Don’t let yours be one of them. There are a lot of great resources on the web, your local library and many other places. Seek out a mentor who has done it bigger and better and ask them for assistance. More than likely they would be happy to help you. If you are too afraid to ask then you are too afraid to get into business for yourself.

There are limitless number of work at home business models. There are virtual secretary services, eBay stores, telemarketing even crafting mom’s selling through their own websites. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination and determination. Do your research and find what excites you. With a little common sense and knowledge you too can find a home based business that works for you.

Selling…It’s Not The What It’s The Why

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

One thing you should do is meet face to face with your prospect when ever possible. I realize that in today’s wired world this can be impossible. However, if it is at all possible do it. It is much harder to say no to someone’s face as opposed to over the phone or via email. Also, customer service is always important but in those cases when you are unable to meet face-to-face outstanding customer support and follow through can be key to closing the deal.

Probably the most important thing with selling is you need to shut up. The best thing you can do when meeting with a prospect is sit down and shut up. People really hate to feel like they are being sold. Conversely, they love to buy. Ask them what their needs are and be quiet. Listen while they tell you what their needs are. Using their own words and needs later on makes your job much easier.

Remember a big part of your job is to make the prospect uncomfortable. Move them out of their comfort zone. Make them feel the pain of their need. It is very important to help them explore that need, key in on exactly what that need is and then show them how you can fill it.

Effective sales people know that they should only spend about 20% of their time talking. At this point, if you have listened carefully to your prospect, you have gotten to the root of their need. Now you get to tell them about your awesome product. They don’t need a litany of every single bell, whistle and characteristic it possesses. They only need to know the benefits and features of your product that directly fill the need they identified to you earlier. Remember earlier I said using their own words makes your job easier? This is where that comes into play.

You listened and helped your prospect (who is now your new client) identify a need in their lives. You showed them how your product or service was the perfect fit to fill that need. Now, they will tell all their friends and family about you and how you can help them too.

It all sounds amazingly simple. It also works amazingly well. It’s really just looking at sales from a different perspective. You are not out there to sell the world your amazing product or service. You are out there to fill a need. It’s not about what you’ve got…it’s about why they need it.

Work from Home Opportunity

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Every 11 seconds in America a person is starting a new online business. These days, more than ever before, you don’t have to work for a large corporation to make your mark on the world. You can work from home! Some of the greatest business success stories of recent times involve work from home companies. Even the larger corporations are beginning to outsource to work from home employees, because they’ve found it saves them time and money, and workers are happier and more productive.

If you’d like to have a go at making some money from the current internet and information revolution then get ready to join those bullish entrepreneurs. It’s time to ditch your job for more benefits emotionally and materially than a 9 to 5 existence.

If you are one of those with the will to make their dreams come true, and you want to do it without compromising family responsibilities, join millions who are already working from home or doing an online part-time project that helps then earn extra cash.

The fact is, millions of people are working from all over the world from locations such as home or a café. The good news is, to do this you can be any age or have any level of qualification. If you’re smart about it, there’s no need to have gone to Harvard.

Here are some of the benefits:

1. You decide when you want to work.
2. Be with your family when you want.
3. Be your own boss.
4. Earn as much as you want and work as much as you want.
5. Enjoy low startup costs.

Options worth trying from home:

There are almost unlimited ways of making money from home these days, from serviced-based jobs such as writing for business websites and producing search engine articles, to selling manufactured goods made cheaply abroad.

Affiliate marketing and drop shipping are worth looking into, because they come with flexible working options and unlimited earning potential. But do take care to find legitimate business opportunities as there are a large number of scams in operation.

SCAMS: Beware!

It is very easy to get carried away and fall into the trap of thinking you may be able to earn millions in a few months. Please be careful when you choose your business partners. The golden rule is that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

Scam artists are renowned for their tricks using online forms of communication. Sometimes job opportunities are real, but they don’t pay what the employers say they will – and you may be carrying out an illegal activity. Spamming is one example, and you could do jail time if you’re caught getting involved with any kind of email spamming projects.

Here are a few suggestions for projects to avoid. They’re not necessarily illegal, but they may pay very badly for hard or tedious work.

1. Assembling products at home.
2. Medical billing jobs
3. Data entry jobs
4. Processing email (these sorts of jobs are basically spamming)
5. Envelope stuffing

Build your business gradually, and keep your costs low along the way. Do your research thoroughly, and if possible, get references from past clients or employers on any key person you do business with. Good luck!

Network Marketing Secrets

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

The phrase ‘Networking marketing’ has been branded by about everyone, ranging from genuine people to fakes. To some, it connotes another effective marketing channel and to some others it is cheating people out of their hard earned income. There are a portion of Network Marketing practitioners who have given it a bad name. Mainly, multi level marketing has been misunderstood rather than anything else. I will broadly cover some of the aspects of network marketing, to clear the air so to speak.

Modest money, beware of schemes promising astronomical profits: The entry level barrier for most of the network marketing companies is low. Because of this there are many dubious people working the network. To attract prospective marketers, astronomical profits are being claimed. Going by some of the promotional material, you are likely to become a millionaire overnight. This is the time to pause and press the think button. Can one really do all those things that it is promising? Does it look realistic? If it is a get rich quick scheme, you better avoid it like the plague. Let us face facts. In this world, there is no way one can get rich overnight, unless you are ripping off others in the process.

A genuine network marketing company would promise reasonable returns in exchange for your hard work and sweat. The products on sale would be real, and marked with a modest profit margin. A genuine company would demand your time and attention and compensate you in proportion to your ability and hard work.

Genuine products and services: not some exotic product promising to cure AIDS: Don’t be carried away by tall promises. Look at the product. Would you buy such a thing? If yes, then the product can be sold by you. If no, don’t expect people to buy something which you yourself will not touch with a barge pole. Once your reputation among your friends and peers is tarnished you can do very little to regain it.

You have to work hard: Another misconception among the prospective network marketers is that one need not do much to start earning. The money will just pour in without putting in any effort. Remember there are no free meals on offer in this world. You have to work hard like in any other profession. Having business experience is a plus. You would then know what is involved in selling and your expectations are likely to be realistic. I am not suggesting that a network marketing opportunity cannot be full time. Contrary to it, many entrepreneurs have been highly successful and have made millions. It is only that they have put in the effort to achieve their goals.

Research: Research your product well. Sometimes you may like a product and feel comfortable selling it. But your personal choice should not be the only reason you should join a network marketing company. I would advise you to ask around a bit. Sample testing and feedback are important to judge the marketability of a product. You can ask your friends and family to comment on the product and most important whether they would like to use it in future. Armed with this information, you can move ahead confidently, since you already have clients lined up by now.

The Key Characteristics Of An Entrepreneur

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Someone who is going to start a business is someone who can be efficient in using many abilities, either inborn or learned through study. A very important factor (depending on what kind of business they will engage in) is knowing how to manage finances. Obviously, they want to make a profit in their venture.

Before we look at the key characteristics of an entrepreneur, we must know what an entrepreneur is. Looking in a standard dictionary gives us this: a person who organizes, operates and assumes the risk for a business venture. While that is a good definition, it doesn’t fully describe the inspiring views of an entrepreneur and we could say the definition may fall a bit short. You could expand the definition of entrepreneur to be someone who begins a venture or enterprise that will obtain a profit for him or her, and you might be getting closer.

All that said — there are characteristics of an entrepreneur that can indicate if the person has it in him to adventure into the world of start-ups. These are pretty basic to someone’s success.

They must be willing to accept some risk. There will be some financial or personal risk in any opportunity they may create or pursue, and entrepreneurs will be willing to face these risks and uncertainties and hopefully, overcome them. Their beliefs in what they are doing will be strong enough to cope with the stress of the possible risks.

Many entrepreneurs will have the ability to make goals for themselves and plan how to reach them, and then get to work making those goals a reality. There is a great leadership factor within them, and they can usually inspire others with their determination. When working from home, entrepreneurs MUST have this ability as otherwise they become distracted and fail to be productive.

For the most part, entrepreneurs don’t mind hard work. They will go above and beyond the standard nine to five schedules of most people in getting their venture off the ground, and continue long hours as needed in the development of their new business.

The true entrepreneur will be found to possess a quality of responsibility. They are the founders of their enterprise; they created it. They want to see it succeed and will give of themselves to see that it happens, all the while knowing their actions are the ones that make it succeed or fail. Some learn the hard way, by having a collapse seem imminent, but avoiding it by all means. Others have studied ways to avoid failure and apply what they know to stay away from the pitfalls. But in all cases, they know it is THEIR actions that determine their success, no one else. This is responsibility.

Optimism is a quality often found in the entrepreneur. They normally have a very positive philosophy and feel that almost anything is possible. They maintain the attitude that they can achieve what they intend to achieve, and are proud of the successes on the way. And again, in a work at home endeavor, this must be maintained in order to succeed. Any network marketing, multi-level marketing company would contribute to this attitude with their materials but you still have to create it for yourself to stay on top.

To begin an adventure in starting a business, a person must have some organizational ability. They have to coordinate many things, often all by themselves. But even bringing others in to work for them adds even more activity, responsibilities and paperwork. They have to get it all together so it works.

In the end, an entrepreneur will be measuring his success by profit. And so he is oriented to financial security and making some wealth, making life easier for himself.

These qualities may not be found in every entrepreneur out there, but many possess the majority of them, and will need to in order to succeed.

Tips on Network Marketing

Friday, December 7th, 2007

What is network marketing?

When you buy a product from a person in a network marketing company then you become someone in their down line. You can also start selling the products and earn a commission. The people you sell to can also become sellers of the products and they can earn commissions. With these people being in your down line, then every time they sell a product you get a percentage of the commission as well. This is how you start to build your business is by bringing people into your down line. There are several hundred people who are involved with network marketing who are multi millionaires today.

There are three important tips that make network marketing successful. You must first convince people that you can change their life. People are hesitant to take initiative. So motivate and encourage them to join the network for marketing. Secondly touch them emotionally, in the heart. Thirdly they must know that you are there to take their life to a whole new level.

Network marketing is also referred to as “emotional marketing”, because you touch the heart of the buyer and make him your seller. That is all you need to do in network marketing, to get people moving towards you, then with you. Sentiment is what that draws them towards you. In network marketing, people are attracted to a strong feeling of the heart, and that is what touches the person, and their heart.

Convince the individual that there is change for a better lifestyle, better prospects and better future. Network marketing is not a ‘get rich quick’ scheme. This is serious business and people involved in it are dedicated to their product in an organized way. Network marketing is all about leverage. You can take control of your time and increase your working hours, on which you can be paid by sponsoring other people and earning a small income on their efforts. J. Paul Getty, who created one of the world’s greatest fortunes, said “I would rather make 1 percent on the efforts of 100 people than 100 percent on my own efforts.” This very basic concept is the cornerstone of network marketing.

Network marketing can be a home based business. There is no expense on office space or furniture or manpower. Since your customers turn into sellers they in turn bring other customers who turn into sellers. This can all be conducted from your home. Women are ideally suited for network marketing. They can invite friends and neighbors for a get together and show them the products. This approach is called word of mouth. Also people will either rent a hotel room or restaurant meeting room and give demonstrations of their products and have testimonial meetings. This way you can gather a lot of people at one time to present the information.

For network marketing, there are no capital expenses, no geographical limitations, no minimum quotas required and no special education or skills needed. Network marketing is a low cost, home-based business that can actually offer many tax benefits for self employed persons. Network marketing is a personal business where the business expands your circle of friends. After all its people who make this world go around, isn’t it?

Business Coaching To Take You To The Stars

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

For someone about to embark upon some adventure in the work from home world, there is no smarter move than to get some business coaching to help you on the way. Entrepreneurs who have already mastered their practices swear by their coaches. Business people who have gone into multi-level marketing under major corporate banners know that the business coaching they receive from the companies they work for made it possible for them to succeed.

Just about anybody can claim to be a business coach, because there is no requirement for a license at this time. But to get good advice and intelligent coaching, you will need to ensure your coach knows what it’s all about. If you are starting into direct sales, your business coach should have experience in direct sales.

We aren’t talking about mentors, if you define a mentor as someone who provides you with motivation and encouragement, like a cheerleader. We are talking about business coaching that targets exact strategies within your business to make you successful. Business coaches will work with you to give you solutions to the problems you face in your day-to-day tasks. This doesn’t mean they won’t also “cheerlead” you, but it’s the business acumen they possess that is going to help your profits.

They can play devil’s advocate and present you with possible difficulties in implementing some strategy. They can advise you on keeping your records and more efficient ways of keeping your customer base. When you work from home, this in itself does not negate having perfect bookkeeping or record keeping. You don’t want to find out the hard way that you were deficient come tax time.

No real script exists for a business coach to follow. Entrepreneurs, engaging in such a wide variety of fields, can have a multitude of requirements from the business coaching they need individually. But when they pick a coach, they should interview the person well to see that:

1. The coach has good communication and can describe what they mean in understandable terms.
2. The coach has some experience in the area you need coaching for.
3. You work well together.

Most coaches will admit that they look into the person they are going to coach, for they have to know the weaknesses and strengths of their “trainee.” Entrepreneurs are not a stereotyped sort of person and can come from any background and have a wide array of desires. The coach has to allow for that variance.

With business coaching from an efficient coach, you will feel you have help in reaching your goals and won’t feel so alone in your movement towards these goals. Get a business coach to help you reach the stars.

5 Steps Needed to Set Up your Home Office

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

Many home based businesses fail within six months of starting. This is usually because the new business owner has not put in place, the proper systems to run a home based business. In this article I’ve included a few tips that should help you to organize your new business.

Office space

It is important to have a proper workplace for your home business. Many people try to work out of their garage or a corner of their bedroom or even in a portion of the family room. This tends to cause disorganization. Curious children getting into things in your workspace can also be a problem. If you don’t have a specific space set aside for your home based business you need to make one.

Set up an office space specifically for your business, even if most of your work is done outside of your home (as with building contractors or plumbers). Setting up a specific desk, file cabinet, and telephone line for your business is important. If you don’t have a room in your home that is exclusively used for your business, you need to have at least a portion of a room set aside. This area shouldn’t be used for anything else.

Telephone

Your home base business should have its own telephone number and an answering machine set up specifically for your business. If your clients can get a hold of you via the telephone you need to have a way for them to contact your online. Sharing your home telephone line with your home based business can cause problems. If you have teenagers or other family members who are prone to use the telephone a lot you may not get an important business calls. Setup rules for your business phone. It should be used for business use only. Whoever answers your business phone needs to do it in a professional manner. This is important if you want your business to be taken seriously.

Organizing Data and Supplies

Your office should have a secure filing cabinet to organize your business documents. You should keep all important data in this filing cabinet. All receipts and other forms need to be kept where you are not going to lose them. It’s also important to keep documents and other business related materials put away so that someone doesn’t spell something on them. Losing important paperwork can be very costly for your home based business. Selling products that look like your children have been playing with them is also not good for your business.

Computer

Data on your computer should be password protected. If you don’t password protect your business documents it’s possible that children or even other family members can go in and accidentally delete your home based business data. Losing computerized business records can also be very costly for a new home based business.

Financial Management System

Another big mistake that new home business owners tend to make is not having a separate financial management system for their business and your own money. Your business should have its own bank account. You should give yourself a payday. Avoid giving your self advances, even when you feel you have earned them. Keeping track of business expenditures is important. If your financial records are mingled in with your grocery shopping it’s going to become very difficult to keep track of funds.
